Puss in Boots

The animated feature is a prequel to Puss in Boots' appearance in the Shrek series. This is an origin tale. I can hardly wait for the origin tale of Donkey. Puss (Antonio Banderas) is a bad kitty with a talent for swordplay, dancing, and the ladies. Parentless, Puss grew up in an orphanage in San Ricardo. His best friend was Humpty Alexander Dumpty the egg. Humpty (Zach Galifianakis) has dreams of acquiring magic beans and infiltrating the giant's castle in the sky to get his hands on the golden goose.

In the original story, Puss is French. He is a clever cat who helps his master – a miller's son – win the hand in marriage of the king's daughter! In doing this, he had to slay an ogre, thus his creds as an ogre killer when he appears in Shrek II. This Puss is Spanish. In fact, he is Zorro if Zorro was a cat. He also has a dash of Don Juan. As with the Shrek movies, there are multiple fairy tale figures that make appearances. Jack (Billy Bob Thornton) and Jill have become criminals since falling down the hill. Mother Goose is a gargantuan goose and also mother of the Golden Goose. There is also Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek), a master thief and love interest for Puss. The Dance Fight between Kitty and Puss is great fun.

Humpty is alternately ally and villain. He is the brains behind much of the action, proving to be sometimes a `bad egg' and sometimes a `good egg.' He's an inventor, a dreamer, and morally confused.

The movie is great fun and recommended.
